Overview

A full-featured e-commerce Android app for cosmetics — users browse categorized products, filter by type/price/brand, add to cart, and check out securely. Order status updates in real time via polling. The backend is a custom PHP REST API with a MySQL database, with JWT-based auth for user sessions.

Key Contributions

  • Built PHP REST API with CRUD endpoints for products, orders, users, and categories — secured with JWT middleware.
  • Android client uses Retrofit 2 for type-safe API calls and Room for offline cart persistence.
  • Product filter system with multi-select facets (category + price range + brand) using a custom query builder on the PHP side.
  • Real-time order tracking via 30-second polling with exponential backoff on network errors.
  • Glide image loading with in-memory and disk caching for smooth product image scrolling.

Results

This project taught me how to design REST APIs that are genuinely usable from a mobile client — thinking about payloads, pagination, and error codes from the consumer's perspective first.
